Fashion D.I.Y

Customize Your Clobber

We all know that recycling is beneficial to our environment, recycling can also be applied to our clothes. How many times have you flung open your wardrobe and been covered in piles of clothes that for some reason or other have been deemed last seasons, given up trying and grabbed your usual outfit? Now rewind, and think again, what about those bootleg jeans right at the back? Constantly we read that bootlegs are out and skinny jeans are in, it seems the tighter the fabric the better as far as celebrities are concerned. How about hacking off some inches and getting your legs out for the summer season without having to fork out for new shorts?

Denim shorts look great at festivals or on the beach, not only do they look effortlessly fabulous teamed with a slouchy t-shirt and flip-flops they are completely free. The best thing of all is that you still get that lovely feeling when you spend out (more than you should) on a great outfit by customising your own clothes, its revolutionary!  Once you start customising you will begin to get a creative flair, the money you save in customising for a year could even pay for next year’s festival ticket!
Of course it doesn’t have to stop at jeans... Imagine, you see a pair of designer heels with expert detailing, the price tag is well into the hundreds but you have to have those shoes!

STOP before you sell your mother, think about alternative options. How about buying a pair of plain shoes from a low cost high street brand and visiting a haberdashery?
Haberdasheries can be like Aladdin’s cave where you will find: gems, sequins, chains, dyes, ribbons and loads more that can give those inexpensive shoes the wow factor your feet deserve.
Celebrities spend thousands on one- off pieces customised by the designers to match their specific needs, so they feel unique, iconic and get noticed.
You too could achieve this with your own creations, all you need is the will to give it a go, the time to design and create the confidence to stand proud. If you are thinking this all sounds a bit tricky, try not to worry, you only need a basic skill of sewing, as there are many other methods. Glue guns are very effective for sticking gems; most haberdasheries even provide iron-on embellishments. However, some friendly advice, do not start too big, practice makes perfect. Most importantly enjoy your new wardrobe and your new bank balance!
